The Manufahi Sanitation Project is now complete!!
For this project TLV will be installing toilets at the school and at locations identified by the communities in three villages in the area of Manufahi, the villages being Beremanek, Tahu-Bein and Debuwa’en.
These communities have prioritised this need recognising the activity’s immense value and great need to reduce and eradicate open defecation practiced by the rural communities in the area.
On completion of the project a strategy will be developed for the long-term maintenance of the sanitation system, as well as education on hygiene and promotion of positive health outcomes.
TLV will be working on the project in partnership with the three communities, UJ-Bertade and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australian Aid: Friendship Grants (DFAT). TLV has been excited to receive a grant from DFAT for this project which has made it possible for the people of Manufahi.
UJ-Bertade is a not-for-profit association of youth in Timor Leste who volunteer in their
community to increase public awareness of health and to help in the development of the
community.
The project will be in three stages:
Stage1: Building of 6 toilets
The system will build sanitation facilities to the school and community facilities in key
locations identified by the communities.
Stage2 and 3: Building of 13 toilets
The system will build the remainder of the sanitation in key locations identified by the
communities.
The TLV team is extremely excited about our new project and the impact it will have on the Manufahi communities! But without the ‘Friends of TLV’ we could not continue as this initiative relies on the generous contributions of our supporters.
TLV and the communities of Manufahi and UJ-Bertade thank you!
